Shep Rose has spent over a decade as one of reality television’s most memorable stars. On Bravo’s Southern Charm, he is known for his magnetic presence, his sense of humor, his “say yes to everything” approach to life, which has resulted in his fair share of dabbling in excess. Excess, which eventually caught up with him after a rough, and very public, weekend at BravoCon.

That particular weekend was a huge catalyst, which led him to want to do deep inner work, and find a way to reconcile his patterns. However, he wasn’t interested in taking a traditional approach to healing.

Instead, Shep flew to Costa Rica for a week of ayahuasca ceremonies with us at Rythmia.

He recently wrote a book about that experience and his journey here, called Nothing in Moderation: A Psychedelic Reckoning With Excess. The book is currently trending on Amazon and #1 in the category for “Substance Abuse Recovery.”

We sat down with Shep and asked him five questions about his journey, and we’re thrilled to share them with you today.

Five Questions with Shep Rose

What made you want to try ayahuasca?

I wanted to do ayahuasca because some friends had done it and had been talking to me about it for a few years, saying they got a lot out of it. I was searching at the moment. Still am, actually.

What was your deciding factor in choosing Rythmia?

I chose Rythmia after doing a bit of research, but mostly because my Navy SEAL friend Kenny and I were talking about his experiences with alternative medicine, and he mentioned that he and his wife had gone to Rythmia, and that it’s a good starter spot. They take good care of you, plus the accommodations are very good.

Why did you want to write your book?

I had no intention of writing a book when I booked my trip. But as soon as I landed, I started to feel inspired. All these strangers and soon-to-be friends, tiptoeing around, excited and nervous all at once. And I was right there with them. It was an interesting scene, to say the least.

What do you hope readers take away from it?

I hope readers enjoy the book, that they laugh and think, and consider ayahuasca an option to help them through difficult times or terrible memories, to confront trauma and find peace.

What is the single most impactful breakthrough (perhaps even a miracle) that’s happened for you post plant medicine?

I don’t know about miracles. I just know that I left with way more empathy and sensitivity towards the people in the world that we don’t know well, or haven’t even met. We are all a product of our past, but don’t have to be a prisoner to it. Finally, to follow your heart, which sounds cliché and vague but also happens to be unique to everyone’s life. Being the best version of yourself…or something like that.

In Conclusion

Shep’s warmth, and candor, is exactly why we wanted to share this conversation with you all. If his journey resonates with you at all, be sure to pick up a copy of his new book, Nothing in Moderation: A Psychedelic Reckoning With Excess, where he shares all about his Rythmia journey and more. It's trending for good reason, and if you give it a read, we are certain you’ll understand why.
